Flame Pre-Treatment Machines
The basic requirement for a good adhesion of the printing ink is not only a uniform surface tension, but also that the glass surface is clean and completely free of graphite, silicone, dust and grease.
This is achieved by a flame-treatment of the glass just prior to printing. By flaming with an open, clean burning gas flame the water in the surface can be driven out and possible impurities can be reduced. This improves the adhesion of the applied Polymers significantly.
Beverage bottles have usually run through a cold-end-treatment, to protect their surface from damage caused by friction. However, this cold-end-treatment prevents a lasting adhesion of inks to this glass surface. Therefore, a pre-treatment with a gas flame is absolutely necessary to achieve enough bonding areas for the adhesive and to create enough surface energy which is decisive for a proper coating.
